Learn how to use Zenler Automations to automate email sequences, tagging, enrollment, onboarding, webinar follow-up, behavioural triggers & funnels.
Automations are the brain of your Zenler business.
They're the part that means you're hands-free. Once you've set them up, you can sit back and say "this can run itself now" — and get on with the work that matters.
When we talk about automations in Zenler, we're talking about emails. Automated emails sent to the right person, at the right time, triggered by what they actually do.
Zenler allows you to:
✔ Deliver lead magnets
✔ Trigger welcome sequences
✔ Add and remove tags
✔ Send timed follow-up emails
✔ Run course onboarding automatically
✔ Automate webinar registration and reminders
✔ Follow up on digital product purchases
✔ Build evergreen email funnels
✔ Segment your audience by behaviour and cohort
And one of the most powerful things about Zenler's automation system: it works the same way in every area of the platform. Courses, funnels, live events — same interface, same logic. No relearning. Once you understand it in one place, you've got it everywhere.
Let's walk through the whole system.
🎥 ▶️ Zenler Automations Tutorial (2026) | Workflows, Triggers, Tagging & Behaviour Automation!
Automations aren't just one area of Zenler — they run throughout the whole platform.
For marketing funnels: 👉 Marketing → Funnels → select your funnel → Automation tab
For courses: 👉 Inside your course → Automation tab
For live events: 👉 Inside your live event → Automation tab
The same underlying system applies everywhere — which means once you understand how it works in one place, you can use it confidently across courses, funnels, memberships, and live events without needing to relearn anything.
A trigger is the event that starts the automation — the thing a person does that tells Zenler to act.
Confirmed trigger types in Zenler:
OnEnroll — triggered when someone enrols in a course. Used for: welcome sequences, course onboarding, access instructions.
OnCourseComplete — triggered when someone completes a course. Used for: certificate delivery, graduate email, upsell to next product.
OnLessonComplete — triggered when someone completes a lesson. Used for: behaviour-based check-ins, progress emails, engagement nudges.
OnSubscribe (funnel opt-in) — triggered when someone submits a funnel opt-in form. Used for: lead magnet delivery, welcome sequence, nurture funnel entry.
Live Registration — triggered when someone registers for a live event (applies to Live Webinars, Interactive Webinars, 1-1 Bookings, and Live Classes). Used for: registration confirmation email, reminder sequence.
onSurveyResult — triggered by a specific result in a survey funnel. Used for: branching follow-up based on quiz/survey answers.
Under each trigger, you add one or more actions — the things Zenler does automatically.
Confirmed actions in Zenler:
✔ Send Mail — send an email immediately or with a timed delay (minutes, hours, days, weeks, or on a specific date).
✔ Add Tag — apply a tag to a person to segment them or personalise their journey.
✔ Remove Tag — remove a tag at a specified time or date (e.g. remove "new" tag once someone completes orientation).
✔ Send a Webhook — notify a third-party service when a trigger fires (use Zapier integration instead of webhooks for Zapier-based workflows).
✔ Notify Admin — send an internal email alert when specific events happen, such as a high-ticket purchase or enrolment.
Timed delivery: Every action can be delayed — send immediately, or after a set number of minutes, hours, days, or weeks, or on a specific date and time. This is how you build drip sequences and timed onboarding journeys.
Email stats: You can see opened, delivered, clicked, unsubscribed, and bounced stats for every automated email — right inside Zenler, without needing to open a separate email platform.
External automations: Zenler also connects to tools like Zapier and Pabbly for creators who want to extend their workflows beyond the platform — connecting to Google Sheets, CRMs, Slack, and more. Always check whether a task can be handled internally first; external automation tools require their own separate accounts.
Pre-built blueprints: When you create a course, Zenler automatically pre-creates an enrolment email sequence and a course completion sequence — with email content blueprints ready for you to edit. They're set to draft by default, so you just edit and activate them. This saves a lot of time.
Drip notification emails: If you use Zenler's drip schedule on a course, it automatically pre-creates one ready-to-edit email per dripped section. Each email goes out when that section unlocks for the student — so your content delivery and communication stay in sync without any extra setup.
This is the simplest starting point and takes just a few minutes to set up.
Trigger: User submits opt-in form
Actions:
✔ Add Tag (e.g. "Lead Magnet Downloaded")
✔ Send email delivering the lead magnet
✔ Start follow-up email sequence (send Day 2, Day 4, Day 7 emails with value and offers)
✔ Notify Admin (optional)
The moment someone opts in, they receive the lead magnet and enter your nurture sequence — with zero manual work from you.
Trigger: OnEnroll
Actions:
✔ Send welcome email with course access link (Zenler pre-builds this for you)
✔ Add tag (e.g. "Course Enrolled")
✔ Send Day 2 nurture email
✔ After completing a module → send a behaviour-triggered check-in
That last one is worth stopping on. Zenler allows you to trigger emails based on what students actually do inside a course.
For example: when a student finishes a section, you can automatically send them an email — "You're doing really well, are you stuck with anything? Join me in the community, I'm running a live."
That kind of timely, personal response happens automatically, without you lifting a finger.
OnCourseComplete actions:
✔ Send congratulations email
✔ Add tag (e.g. "Course Completed — Ready for Upsell")
✔ Send offer for the next product
Trigger: OnEnroll (into membership/course)
Actions from transcript:
✔ Send welcome email
✔ Add a tag
✔ Give bonus resources
✔ Add to community channels (linking a community to a membership/course means this can happen automatically)
✔ Start onboarding email sequence
Retention is built through consistent early communication. The welcome sequence sets the tone — what to expect, where to go, what to do first.
Automations for live events work the same way as course and funnel automations — same interface, same actions.
Trigger: Live registration
Default pre-built automations (included automatically):
✔ Webinar Registration Email — sent immediately on registration
✔ Webinar Reminder Email — 1 day before the event
✔ Webinar Reminder Email — 1 hour before the event
These are pre-created for you inside the live event's automation tab and set to live by default. You just edit the content and they run automatically.
You can also add:
✔ Add Tag on registration (e.g. to segment attendees by which webinar they joined)
✔ Remove Tag on a specific date (e.g. after the event ends)
✔ Post-event follow-up email with the replay link
Trigger: OnEnroll (when someone accesses the digital product course shell)
Actions:
✔ Send delivery email with the product link
✔ Add tag (e.g. "Purchased [Product Name]")
✔ Start follow-up email sequence — tips, extra value, building trust
✔ Promote related offer at Day 5 or 7
David's point in the tutorial: "If you're selling digital products, you give them a link to the digital product, then you follow up with an email sequence telling them about the product or giving them extra tips to build that trust." That's exactly what this automation does.
Tags are one of the most powerful tools in Zenler's automation system.
You can tag users by when they joined, what they bought, or what they've done — then send targeted emails to specific groups.
A real example David gives: tag everyone who joins in March with "March." Tag everyone who joins in April with "April." Then send specific emails to each group — all within the same automation system.
Another practical example from Zenler's support docs: when someone completes a course, automatically add a tag like "Ready for Upsell." You can then use that tag to identify and target that specific group with your next product offer — without any manual list management.
This means your messaging stays relevant to where each person actually is in their journey with you.
Note: Zenler also has pre-built filters, so you can segment people by course enrolment, funnel, and more without needing to add a tag at all.
Trigger: OnSubscribe (opt-in submitted)
Actions:
✔ Send lead magnet delivery email
✔ Add tag (e.g. "Funnel Entry — [Funnel Name]")
✔ Day 1: value email
✔ Day 3: more value + soft offer
✔ Day 5: stronger CTA to product or course
A lead magnet funnel becomes a sales funnel when you add a tripwire, order bump, or upsell. Zenler includes all three. The automation handles the nurture — you set it once, and it runs for every new lead automatically.
If you have leads who've gone quiet, tag them as inactive and send a broadcast to that segment.
✔ Add tag "Inactive" to users who haven't engaged
✔ Send a re-engagement broadcast to the "Inactive" tag segment
✔ Offer something fresh — bonus content, a new resource, an invitation to a live
Zenler's built-in filters also let you find and segment people without relying on tags alone.
